Parklakes 2 Presents Avenue to Honour Australian Service Men and Women

Parklakes 2 Master-planned Residential Community in Bli Bli is proud to establish an Avenue of Honour together with Sunshine Coast Regional and District RSL along the lakes and main road, Parklakes Drive. Comprising of 26 Fig trees, it has been designed as a sign of remembrance, to honor those who fought for Australia and those who took part in peacekeeping events throughout history.

Watch this space: The Avenue of Honour Project has commenced and is due for completion early 2017

The first 14 trees represent significant conflicts where Australians have fought or provided support. The remaining 12 trees represent countries where Australian forces have been involved in peacekeeping missions. Each event will be identified with a brass plaque fixed to a boulder at the base of the tree.

Sunshine Coast locals, visitors and school children will benefit from the educational and historic relevance of the Avenue.

“Memorial trees and avenues are a large part of Australia’s history. This avenue is to commemorate those who have served in our armed forces throughout Australia’s history and provide a place for reflection and education”, explained Jennifer Mullaney, Environmental Scientist, Covey Associates.

The trees are positioned along the estate’s lakeside adjacent to the future P-12 Catholic School opening January 2019 and Halcyon Lakeside Luxury 50 plus Community. The Avenue of Honour is the only Avenue within the Sunshine Coast District to represent major and minor conflicts in which Australians served.

Australia has a proud military history having fought and continuously provided peacekeeping for over 50 years. The below map identifies the countries where this has occurred and as you walk along the Avenue you will notice the wide range of countries and events Australia has been involved in.

“With our multigenerational living at Parklakes 2 the Avenue of Honour will appeal to our wide range of residents, providing an opportunity for the entire community to pay their respects and future Catholic School students will benefit from the educational and historic relevance ,” Robert Flipp, Parklakes 2 Developer said.

“We encourage all members of the community to visit this dedicated Avenue in Parklakes Drive, Bli Bli,” Mr Flipp said.
